Founded in the year 1995, Spandana is registered under the Karnataka Societies Registration Act, 1960 in the office of the District Registrar, Belagavi. It was started by socially-inclined individuals, from the different fields of society viz., such as doctors, educationists, social workers, social activists and lawyers with the vision to help the marginalised women to participate in their own development to ascertain their rights by organising and training them in human resources development.
Ever since its inception SPANDANA organization has worked with rural, urban and tribal communities, dalits and backward communities in Belagavi district to enhance their skills and find the necessary resources to ameliorate the conditions of their lives.
The aim or Spandana is to organise socio-economically disadvantaged communities around the issues related to increasing income, improving access to education, health care facilities and training in Human Resources Development, right based activities with special focus towards equity sand lead the life with dignity.
We promoted Self Help groups of women, Labour Groups Formers Groups, Child Rights Clubs and other Community-based organisations. We also organised several training programmes on various issues affecting to their lives, status and dignity, and linked the women groups to banks, government departments and other financial institutions to take up socio-economic development programmes. To its credit, Spandana has also organised jathas and protests against the social injustice against women and children in various fields in Belgaum district.
Spandana hosted the state secretariat of CACL-K. Our director Ms.V.Susheela has been serving as the state convener of CACL in Karnataka.
